Dear Year 3 Parents,
Kew Gardens – Richmond Surrey
On Thursday 21st May 2026, in connection with our science topic where we have been looking how
to become plant scientists, we have arranged a very exciting trip for Year 3 to visit Royal Botanic
Gardens Kew in Richmond.
Royal Botanic Garden Kew has vast and beautiful botanic gardens and is one of the most biodiverse
places globally. Founded in 1840, from the exotic garden at Kew Park, its living collections include
some of the 27,000 species, which are expertly looked after by Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, while
the herbarium, one of the largest in the world, has over 8.5 million preserved plant and fungal
specimens.
The cost per child will be £15.50, which includes the admission fee, workshops and transport. We
are very grateful this trip has been part funded by Friends of Grove (FOG).
We will also need a small number of adult helpers. If you would like to help on this trip, please speak
to your class teacher. We are only able to take a certain number of parent helpers, due to ratios
required and seats on the coach.
Children will need to be at school promptly at 8.15am on this day and we are due to return later than
normal school pick up time. We anticipate we will be back by 3.45pm on this day, depending on the
return journey traffic from London. Children should be collected from their usual classroom after the
trip.
All children will need to wear school uniform for this trip and bring along a waterproof coat, snack,
packed lunch, drink and water bottle, in a small rucksack, that they will carry with them all day.
Please do not send canned or fizzy drinks. No pocket money is required. At Kew, we will be outside
for the majority of the day, so sensible comfortable footwear.
If your child suffers from travel sickness, please also notify us prior to the trip as medication forms
need to be completed prior to the trip. Travel sickness medication must come in its’ original
packaging with dosing amount. Forms are available from the school office.
Parental consent and payment is now requested using School Gateway.
